Exterminators get rid of mosquitoes using sprays and repellents approved by the Environmental Protection Agency. The best exterminators use new insecticides that are safer for humans and pets than older formulations.

Exterminators generally target shrubs and other plants along with other manmade structures where mosquitoes like to hide, including under stairs and decks and inside outdoor sheds. On properties with dense foliage, exterminators often use a barrier spray that bonds to plants. Because mosquitoes breed around water, properties with open waterways and water features may require separate larva-killing treatments.

After termite tenting, you can safely return home and get back to your life. You can open all the food and medicines you packed in sealed bags and close the windows, drawers, and cabinets. You can also plug your appliances back in and reconnect your gas.

Unless you got your home pre-treated for other pests, you may notice new home invaders coming in to feed on the dead termites. Some termites may also reappear because some treatments don’t kill termite eggs. They won’t live very long without their colony, though, so it’s nothing to worry about. You may also see some droppings, but these can be easily wiped up.

The sprays exterminators use to kill spiders usually offer protection for one to three months. Exterminators spray the borders of their treatment area to prevent new spiders from invading your space. You can keep this protective barrier intact by giving your skirting boards and baseboards a gentle clean.

Your spider situation may seem to get worse before it gets better. The sprays encourage spiders and other pests to come out from their nests, so you’ll probably see more of them a week or so after your exterminator leaves. Be patient, and you should see far fewer webs around a month after treatment. You’ll usually notice the spiders are gone around six weeks after treatment.
